Serving with Purpose: Volunteer Work Day at All Saints
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”
There’s something special about showing up for a place that has given so much to so many.
Yesterday, eight dedicated volunteers gathered at All Saints Episcopal Camp and Retreat Center for a hands-on work day focused on preparing the grounds for the upcoming season. With willing hearts (and a lot of tools in hand), we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.
Volunteers meet with staff to review the work plan before starting the day.
Clearing the Way
Our main focus was the fence line behind the pool—an area that needed attention before repairs could begin on the lagoon gate. Before any rebuilding can happen, the space had to be cleared of overgrown brush and small trees.
Armed with chainsaws, clippers, and plenty of determination, the team worked steadily to open up the area and prepare it for the next phase of improvements.
Supporting Camp Readiness
In addition to the fence line, volunteers also cleared forest debris surrounding the pool. This effort helps All Saints staff focus on the many other important tasks required to get the pool ready for campers.
Every branch moved, and every space cleared brings us one step closer to welcoming youth and families back for a safe and meaningful camp season.
Stewarding Resources Well
Thanks to a donor's generosity, we were able to rent a wood chipper and additional equipment for the day. Instead of letting cut limbs go to waste, we were able to reuse them efficiently - turning debris into mulch that can continue to serve the land.
It was a meaningful reminder that stewardship isn’t just about caring for what we have; it’s about using it wisely.
Powered by purpose (and a wood chipper), Amanda helped turn a big pile of limbs into something the land can use again.
Rain, Resilience, and Community
Of course, the day didn’t come without its challenges. At one point, the rain rolled in, but no one packed up or headed home.
Instead, we paused, stayed safe, and pushed through together! Because if camp teaches us anything, it’s resilience. It teaches us to adapt, to support one another, and to keep going - even when conditions aren’t perfect.
A Reflection on Service
Our time together reflected something deeper than just physical work. It was an act of service, care, and connection—to the land, to the camp, and to each other.
